Falcons Ride Herd On Mustangs

ODESSA, Texas - All the parts of the machine were working in perfect harmony as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (5-1 Lone Star Conference, 10-2) beat Western New Mexico (2-4 LSC, 7-6) 72-55, Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome.

This ties the best 12 game start in program history.  This is also the best start in the Lone Star Conference since joining in 2016-17.

For the first nearly three minutes of the game, UTPB and Western New Mexico battled on even terms.  The Mustangs hit a jumper to make it 5-4, Falcons at the 7:15 mark.

Graduate student Kamryn Lemon hit a driving lay-up.  That sparked a 21-3 run that sealed the game.

For UT Permian Basin, Lemon scored 22 points, senior Andreea Mancha scored 16 points and graduate student Alexus Quaadman had 13 points, nine rebounds and two steals.  After the game, Mancha was recognized for scoring over 1000 career collegiate points.  She has totaled 1058.

For Western New Mexico, Larissa Laborin scored 13 points and Jade Goynes had 10 points.

UT Permian Basin hits the road Thursday, Jan. 11 playing Lubbock Christian.  The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
