UTPB Edged Out By Lady Chaps

LUBBOCK, Texas – It was 45 minutes of hard work as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (5-2 Lone Star Conference, 10-3) lost 74-67 in overtime to Lubbock Christian (Receiving Votes) (6-1 LSC, 11-3), Thursday night at Rip Griffin Center.

For the first six minutes of the game, UTPB and Lubbock Christian went back-and-forth.  The Lady Chaps went up by six, 16-10 at the 2:56 mark.

The Falcons began to chip away.  Graduate student Alexus Quaadman hit a tough shot in the paint with 36 seconds left in the opening period to tie the game at 18-18.

The final 30 minutes was a tight affair as only four times, the lead was three or more either way.  With 27 seconds left in the fourth period, junior Morgan Helgesen knocked one down from the ozone.

That put UT Permian Basin up 61-58.  LCU came back with a 3-pointer to tie the game at 61 with 23 seconds left.  Off to overtime, they went.

Graduate student Kamryn Lemon hit a jumper with 1:25 left to pull UTPB to three, 70-67.  Lubbock Christian hit four free throws in the final minute to seal the game.

For UT Permian Basin, Lemon scored 21 points and was 10-of-16 from the floor, Quaadman had 18 points, 12 rebounds and two steals and Helgesen scored 14 points with two triples.  This is the seventh double-double this season for Quaadman.

For Lubbock Christian, Grace Foster had 36 points, four steals and hit four 3-pointers.

UT Permian Basin remains on the road, Saturday, Jan. 13 playing West Texas A&M.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
