UTPB Grinds It Out Over Greyhounds

ODESSA, Texas - The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (4-1 Lone Star Conference, 9-2) rolled up its sleeves and grounded out a 59-57 win over Eastern New Mexico (0-5 LSC, 4-7) 85-52, Thursday evening at the Falcon Dome.

This ties the best 11 game start in program history.  It is the first win over the Greyhounds since Jan. 11, 2020.

For the first 12 minutes of the game, UTPB and Eastern New Mexico slugged it out.  Up 12-11 at the 8:36 mark, the Falcons got a jumper from senior Andreea Mancha.

That started a run of 10 straight points to put UT Permian Basin up 22-11 with 5:39 to go.  The Greyhounds gritted their teeth and finished the half with a 14-6 burst to trail 28-25 at intermission.

The whole second half was one of trading buckets.  Tied at 55-55 with 1:51 left in the game, graduate student Kamryn Lemon hit a pair of charity tosses to put UTPB up 57-55.

ENMU missed a jumper and the rebound was grabbed by Lemon.  At the 1:13 mark, sophomore Makayla Bingley scored off that rebound to make it 59-55.

Eastern New Mexico hit a bucket with 20 seconds left to close the gap to 59-57.  The Greyhounds got the ball back and missed two shots.  On the second one, Lemon grabbed the rebound with one second left to preserve the win.
