UTPB Shakes Out The Rattlers

ODESSA, Texas – Five players scored in double figures as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team (7-6 Lone Star Conference, 12-7) beat St. Mary's (Texas) (4-8 LSC, 8-10), 96-79, Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome.

UTPB got off to a 22-12 start at the 11:32 mark.  St. Mary's reeled off 11 straight points to lead 23-22 with 8:57 to go.

The Falcons and Rattlers traded buckets until 29-28, UT Permian Basin at the 6:04 mark.  Senior Keyon Craddock knocked one down from outside the dome to start a run of 10 consecutive points.  UTPB led 49-38 at halftime.

At 14:02 with the Falcons up 64-54, STMU made one last run.  St. Mary's closed to 64-60 with 10:43 to go.  Over the next four minutes, UT Permian Basin outscored the Rattlers to 11-2 to seal the game.

UTPB was on fire hitting 59.6% from the floor and 55% on triples.

For UT Permian Basin, Craddock had 20 points, shot 7-of-10 from the floor and hit six 3-pointers, graduate student Lathaniel Bastian had 19 points and 11 rebounds and junior Alex Matthews scored 18 points.  Juniors Maison Adeleye and DJ Armstrong were also in double-figures. 

Craddock was six-of-six on 3-pointers, the first player in program history to shoot 100% with at least six attempts.  Bastian recorded his 11th double-double of the season.

For St. Mary's, Franklin Agu scored 21 points.

UTPB goes to the road, Thursday, Feb. 1 taking on Western New Mexico.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. MT
