UTPB Holds Off Hilltoppers

ODESSA, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (9-2 Lone Star Conference, 14-3) showed its experience late in a 68-63 win over St. Edward's (4-7 LSC, 7-10), Thursday evening at the Falcon Dome.
 
The Falcons have now won nine consecutive games at home.  Head Coach Rae Boothe recorded her 63rd win at UTPB, tying Adam Collins (2009-12) for most wins.

Most of the first period was a back-and-forth affair between UTPB and St. Edward's.  Up 10-9 with 1:59 to go, the Falcons finished on a 7-1 run to lead 17-10 heading into the second period.

UT Permian started the period with a 7-4 run to lead 24-14 at the 6:15 mark.  The lead never went below 10 the rest of the period.

UTPB was up 48-37 with 1:59 to go in the third period when the Hilltoppers caught fire.  SEU scored eight straight to close to 48-45 at the 9:53 mark of the fourth period.

Senior Andreea Mancha knocked one down from Pluto to put the Falcons up 57-48 with 6:25 to go.  St. Edward's refused to quit and tied the game at 62 at the 2:13 mark.  Sophomore Makala Bingley scored off a turnover with 14 seconds left to finally seal the game

UTPB was of fire hitting 47.6% of their-3-pointers while holding the Hilltoppers to 30%.

For UT Permian Basin, Mancha had 18 points, two steals and shot 6-12 from the floor with four 3-pointers, senior Morgan Helgesen had 14 points and four steals and junior Avalon Munoz had 14 points, five assists and four steals.

For St. Edward's, Janiah Perkins had 17 points and Bailey Featherstone scored 16.

UT Permian Basin remains home, Saturday, Jan. 27 hosting St. Mary's (Texas).  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
