UTPB Edges Aggies In Thriller

LAWTON, Ok. – It went down to the final seconds as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (7-2 Lone Star Conference, 12-3) beat Cameron (3-7 LSC, 5-11) 52-49, Thursday evening at Aggie Gymnasium.
 
The Falcons have tied the school record for best start at 12-3.

The first seven minutes of the game saw UTPB and Cameron slowing things down.  Trailing 10-5, sophomore Makala Bingley rattled in a three.  That started a run of nine straight points to put the Falcons up 14-10 at the end of the period.

UT Permian Basin pushed the lead to nine, 21-12 with 1:51 left in the first half.  UTPB went into the break with a 21-17 lead.

Most of the second half saw the Falcons and Aggies trading buckets.  Senior Andreea Mancha hit a bucket to make it 50-44, UT Permian Basin with 1:51 to go in the game.

Cameron refused to quit and pulled to a single point 50-49 with 23 seconds left.  The Aggies fouled with six seconds on the clock.  UTPB missed both free throws; however, Bingley grabbed the rebound on the second miss.  She was fouled with five seconds to go and hit both charity tosses to seal the game.

UTPB did a good job of shutting the Aggies down allowing them to shoot just 37.5% from the floor and 18.8% from behind the arc.

For UT Permian Basin, Bingley had 17 points with three treys, Mancha scored 14 points with two steals and graduate student Alexus Quaadman had nine points, eight rebounds and blocked three shots.  Junior Avalon Munoz had a solid game with four assists and eight rebounds.

For Cameron, Korie Allensworth and Katie King scored 17 points each.

UT Permian Basin ends the road trip, Saturday, Jan. 20 playing Midwestern State.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
