Falcons Keep The Golden Eagles Grounded

ODESSA, Texas – Senior Gloria Geurin had a strong performance as The University of Texas Permian Basin volleyball team (4-1) beat Minnesota Crookston (1-4) 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-14), Thursday night at the Falcon Dome.  This was Day One of the Dr Steve Aicinena "Iceman" Invitational.

In the first set, UTPB and Minnesota Crookston battled on even terms early in the match.  The Golden Eagles took a 12-10 lead when the Falcons struck.  UT Permian Basin forced an error to start a 10-2 run to seal the game.

In the second set, UTPB held the lead most of the early going, but UMC was hanging tough.  At 9-7, senior Cassandra Rother smashed the ball off the block to start a 6-1 run to take control.

In the final set, the Falcons jumped out 10-4 and never looked back.

For UT Permian Basin, Geurin had 16 kills with three total blocks and hit .556 while senior Logan Terrazas had eight kills and hit .571.  Junior Aaliyah Gray had 11 digs and Rother had three aces.

For Minnesota Crookston, Audrey Cariveau had nine kills and Kailee Waasdorp had 13 digs.

UT Permian Basin takes on Eastern New Mexico, Friday, Sept. 8.  The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
