UTPB Edged Out By Pioneers

DENTON, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin volleyball team (10-4, 1-2 Lone Star Conference) lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) to Texas Woman's (11-4, 3-1 LSC), Saturday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena.

In the first set, it was a tight battle with Texas Woman's taking an 8-7 lead over UTPB.  The Pioneers went on a 10-2 run to lead 18-9.

Junior Chyra Thompson smashed the ball down the line.  That started a 9-3 burst to close to 21-18.  TWU held them off to take the set.

In set two, Texas Woman's came out flying getting to an 8-1 lead.  The Falcons began to chip away.  Senior Gloria Geurin crushed the ball off the block to pull UT Permian Basin to 22-19.  The Pioneers got three straight to win the set.

In the third set, junior Aaliyah Gray served up an ace to tie it at 9-9.  TWU went on an 11-4 run to seal the match.

For UT Permian Basin, Geurin had eight kills and junior Gabby Gregorski had 11 digs and two aces.

For Texas Woman's, Tori Woods had 10 kills, 13 digs and hit .476.  Luna Franca had 21 digs.

UT Permian Basin is home, Friday, Oct. 6 taking on Cameron.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
