UTPB Falls In Conference Opener

ODESSA, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin volleyball team (9-3, 0-1 Lone Star Conference) lost 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 26-24) to Angelo State (12-2, 2-0 LSC, Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome.

In the first set, UTPB and Angelo State went back-and-forth trading points early.  The Falcons forced an error to make it 6-6.  The Rambelles went on a 10-2 run to take control.

In the second set, ASU was up 7-4 before UT Permian Basin made a run.  Junior Aaliyah Gray smashed the ball off the block.  That started a run of three straight points to make it 7-7.

Senior Devin Alcoser served up an ace to put UTPB up 9-8.  Angelo State went on a 9-2 burst to effectively end the set.

In the third set, Angelo State maintained the lead most of the way.  Down 21-16, the Falcons began to fight their way back in.  Junior April Egwu knocked the set down to make it 24-23, UT Permian Basin.  The Rambelles managed to get the next three points to win the match.

UT Permian Basin hits the road, Friday, Sept. 29, playing Midwestern State.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
