DALLAS, Texas
– The University of Texas Permian Basin women's golf program is represented by
Arnie Taguines at the NCAA West Regionals at the Golf Club of Dallas this week as the freshman is holding her own by sitting in the top-20 after the opening round.
A native of Paranaque City, Phillipines, she ended the first day tied for 19th place with a score of 73 on a Par 70 (+3) and is currently slotted as the second-best individual golfer at the event, trailing only Morgan Sjoerdsma from Cal State L.A., among players that are not associated with a team, who is only one stroke ahead (+2).
The freshman ranks as one of the best performers on Par 5 holes, logging a -1 so far, a mark tied for the third-lowest in Dallas to go along with breaking even in the Par 3 chances.
Among her notable scores are that she has racked up nearly a dozen pars for the afternoon (11) plus a pair of birdies (2).
The second round of the Regionals will take place on Tuesday in the Lone Star State with the Falcons' first year phenom sitting just six strokes back of the leader, Julika Grosspietsch from Cal State East Bay (-3).
