FORT SMITH, AR – In the final road game of the regular season, UT Permian Basin baseball's
Parker Goin had it going on, striking out six over 4.2 innings on the mound. Despite his proficiency for the punchout on Sunday, it wasn't enough as the Falcons fell to Arkansas-Fort Smith 7-3.
Neither side could get much going offensively until late. The Lions scratched across runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 2-0 lead heading into the eighth. The home side loaded the bases and with two-out a triple and home run plated five runs.
The Falcons would not be deterred, rallying in the ninth.
Cooper Ciesielski,
Jay DeSoto, and
Jack Haggerty loaded the bases with three-straight singles.
Michael Clapperton doubled home two to trim the deficit to five.
Ethan Flodstrom's ground ball made it 7-3 but that's as close as the Falcons would get before the final out.
The Falcons are back at Roden Field for the final weekend of the regular season. They'll host Oklahoma Christian starting at 2 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons enter the final weekend still alive for the Lone Star Conference Championships after being picked to finish last in the league in the preseason polls.
