ARLINGTON, TX – The sixth-seeded University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis program started the match off right by taking the doubles point on the back of its second and third flight duos but could not keep the momentum going into singles play, dropping all four individual matchups as UTPB's season ended at the hands of the 32nd-ranked team in the country, 4-1.
 
Senior Hector Flores and Paul Schwieger capped off the doubles portion in dramatic fashion, defeating Killian Guillou / Philip Kamara by a final of 7-5 to give the Orange and Black an early advantage.
 
"I'm super proud of the guys. We came out and took the doubles point against a nationally ranked program. Horovoy/Rudnicki took down a top 30 nationally ranked doubles team 6-2. Was a very high level," stated Head Coach Alex Hunt.
 
"Midwestern just took over the singles courts and established dominance early. Unfortunately, our great quality of play didn't transition to the singles courts very well. We made lots of unforced errors, and when a team like Midwestern is also playing well, that doesn't usually go well."
 
Just as impressive were the number two team of Grzegorz Rudnicki plus Vitaliy Horovoy who stunned the #21 doubles pairing in the NCAA, upsetting Germano Setti / Marcal Miret Avante handily, 6-2.
 
Fellow senior Patryk Kosinski went down swinging in his final appearance for UTPB, taking four games from the nation's #42 Luis Diaz Argente in defeat, 3-6, 1-6.
 
All five of the other flights were able to win at least a pair of games in singles competition while Schwieger took a 4-3 lead in the second set before the match was finished.
