UTPB Racks Up Seven Extra-Base Hits in Weekend Finale

LAWTON, OK. – Picking up where they left off yesterday, the UT Permian Basin baseball team's offense was clicking on Sunday at Cameron.  The Falcons had seven extra-base hits, including three home runs, along with 17 for the game in their weekend series finale against the Aggies.

Trailing 2-0 in the third, the offense finally got going.  Ethan Flodstrom singled to start the inning and was followed by a hit from Mason Hamlin.  After a sacrifice bunt put runners in scoring position, Flodstrom scored on a wild pitch for their first run of the game.  Brent Rigtrup followed with a triple to the left centerfield gap to tie the score at two.  Cooper Ciesielski gave the Falcons their first led of the day with a double to right center to plate Rigtrup.

The Aggies retook the lead with a pair in their half of the third to make it 4-3.  The lead only lasted until the first batter in the top of the fifth when Carson Johnson ripped a solo home run to left.  Later in the inning the Falcons loaded the bases on a single, walk, and hit batter.  A passed ball scored another run with two outs, putting the Falcons on top 5-4.  That lead would only last until the bottom of the inning where the Aggies struck twice to once again flip the lead.

In the sixth the Falcons continued to hammer the ball.  Hamlin reached on a hit-by-pitch with one out in the inning.  Two batters later, Rigtrup homered to left center to go back up 7-6.  Ciesielski followed with another home run to center to make it 8-6 in favor of the Falcons.

The Falcons trailed once again heading into the eighth, 9-8, before scoring again.  Flodstrom singled and advanced all the way to third on an error, putting the tying run 90 feet away.  Hamlin singled to left and made it a 9-9 game heading into the ninth.

In the top of the ninth, Michael Clapperton's single to left scored pinch-runner Landon Gallegos, putting the Falcons on top once again at 10-9.  In the ninth the Falcons got two quick outs, but a pair of fielding errors extended the inning and allowed the Aggies to take it 11-10.

Flodstrom, Rigtrup, and Hall all had three hits on the day while Hamlin, Ciesielski, and Clapperton had two each.  Rigtrup had three RBI and Ciesielski added two.  Austin Raleigh pitched two perfect innings in relief.

It's a quick turnaround for the Falcons as they head to Alpine, Texas to take on Sul Ross State.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in their final non-conference contest of the season.
