Falcon Bats Bounce Back in Doubleheader Sweep

LAWTON, OK. – Everything was clicking for the UT Permian Basin baseball team in Saturday's doubleheader at Cameron.  In game one it was the Falcon bats leading the way while in the second game Falcon pitching kept the Aggies quiet in a doubleheader sweep.

The bats got going in the second inning of the day.  Brent Rigtrup worked a lead off walk to bring Austin Hall to the dish.  Hall then ripped a double to left centerfield for the first run of the day.  Later in the inning Mason Hamlin singled home Hall for the 2-0 lead.  In their half of the third the Aggies scored a pair of runs to tie the game before the offense broke out in the fourth.

Rigtrup singles and was followed by walks to Hall and Michael Clapperton.  A wild pitch plated Rigtrup to re-take the lead.  Ethan Flodstrom singled home a pair for a 5-2 lead.  Later in the inning with runners in scoring position, Taylor McDaniel singled in a pair and advanced to second on the throw.  Cooper Ciesielski followed with an RBI-single and later scored on a wild pitch to cap off the seven-run inning with a 9-2 lead.

Hall added an insurance run in the sixth on a single through the right side to plate Ciesielski in the eventual 10-5 final in game one.

The offense didn't let up in the first inning of the second game.  Hamlin and Carson Johnson got things going with back-to-back one-out singles.  McDaniel followed with a walk to load the bases.  Miscues by the Aggies led to a pair of runs on a pair of wild pitches and a 2-0 Falcon lead.

Jack Haggerty added to the lead in the fourth with a double down the leftfield line to score Clapperton.  After the Aggies got on the scoreboard to cut the lead to two, the Falcons put the game out of reach in the sixth with a pair of insurance runs.  Hamlin drove in another run with a single up the middle and moved to second on the throw.  Johnson immediately followed with a knock to left center for the final run of the day in the eventual 5-1 final.

Game two starter Grant Harvill was fantastic for the Falcons.  The freshman struck out seven over 6.2 innings of work.  He allowed just one run on five hits and walked none.  Austin Raleigh finished the game in relief for the final out.

Creede Jeffers earned the win in the first game, striking out four over 5.0 innings of work.  Hamlin led the Falcons at the plate with four hits and pair of RBI on the day.  Johnson, Ciesielski, Haggerty, Rigtrup, and Hall all had multiple hits on the day.

The sides wrap-up their Lone Star Conference series tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Lawton.
