LAWTON, OK. – Coming off an offensive flurry on Tuesday, the UT Permian Basin baseball team plated six runs in their weekend series opener against Cameron. The Falcon offense was led by
Mason Hamlin and
Christian Rodriguez who each drove in a pair of runs. Rodriguez and
Cooper Ciesielski also had two hits each.
The Falcons struck first by capitalizing on some miscues by the Aggies. After reaching on a walk,
Jack Haggerty reached second on a wild pitch. Attempting to throw him out, the throw went into centerfield, and an errant throw by the centerfielder allowed the leftfielder to score the first run of the day. With the bases now clear and two-out the Falcons rallied without much effort.
Michael Clapperton was plunked while Rodriguez and
Ethan Flodstrom followed with a pair of walks. That brought up Hamlin who was then hit by a pitch to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. After the Aggies responded with four in the second inning, the Falcons got back into the game in their half of the fourth.
Once again, the rally started with a Clapperton hit by pitch. Rodriguez followed with a triple into the right centerfield gap, scoring Clapperton. Flodstrom then brought home Rodriguez with a sac fly to tie the score at four. In the sixth, Hamlin brought home Flodstrom with an RBI-single up the middle and Rodriguez drove in his second run of the game in the seventh on a base hit. It wasn't enough as Falcon pitching allowed 17 hits in the 16-6 final.
Five of the nine Falcon hits went for extra bases including four doubles. Hamlin and Haggerty also each added a stolen base.
The Lone Star Conference foes are back at it tomorrow in doubleheader action with first pitch coming at 2 p.m. in Lawton.
