ODESSA, TX – In the team's first non-conference game of the season, the UT Permian Basin Baseball team cruised to a 15-5 victory over the Sul Ross State Lobos Tuesday afternoon.
The Falcons racked 13 hits lead by
Carson Johnson who had two hits with a triple to go with his two runs and two RBIs.
Ethan Flodstrom also had two hits and two runs.
Mason Hamlin,
Jay DeSoto, and Hack Haggerty each had a double while
Brent Rigtrup had a triple.
Once on base, the Falcons got aggressive as the team racked up 12 stolen bases in the game.
Cooper Ciesielski,
Michael Clapperton, and
Stephen MacKenzie had three stolen bags each.
Mason Hamlin, DeSoto, and
Christian Rodriguez all had one stolen base each.
UTPB ran out to an early 10-1 lead by the fifth inning. The Lobos picked up a run in the sixth and three in the seventh, to cut the Falcon advantage to only 10-5. However, a five run eighth inning put away Sul Ross with a 15-5 run-rule-win.
The Falcons let a lot of pitchers get work in this Tuesday afternoon match up.
Trevor Barth picked up his second win of the season striking out two in one inning.
Trey Penny had one of the longest outing for UTPB going 2.1 and striking out five Lobos. As a staff, UTPB sat down 12 batters while giving up eight hits and six walks.
It will be a short week for UTPB as they head up to Lawton, OK to get back in Lone Star Conference play against Cameron University.
