ODESSA, TX – It seems like everything was clicking for the UT Permian Basin baseball team Friday afternoon, as the Falcons take both games from the Texas A&M International Dust Devils.
In game one, TAMIU went out to an early two run lead in the top of the first. However, aggressive base running and hitting by the Falcons found their way around the bases to tie the game 2-2.
The game stayed tied until the bottom of the fifth inning when
Cooper Ciesielski cleared the bases on a monster homerun over the center field fence. The Ciesielski dinger brought in three runs and put the game away for the Falcons with a 5-2 win.
Ciesielski lead all Falcons with a homerun and a double.
Mason Hamlin,
Ethan Flodstrom, and
Brent Rigtrup each had two hits.
Michael Clapperton had a double. UTPB collected three stolen bases in game one, Hamlin had two, and
Jack Haggerty had the third.
Falcon pitchers collected six strikeouts in the game lead by
Cade Pollard with three on his way to his first win of the season.
Creede Jeffers earned his third save of the year.
In game two of the double header the Falcons scored early and often racking up 14 runs off of 14 hits to run rule the Dust Devils in eight innings 14-3.
Standouts from the UTPB hitters include Haggerty, Flodstrom, and
Taylor McDaniel who all had two hits and three RBIs apiece. One of McDaniel's hits was a two RBI stand up triple.
Falcon pitching was dominate in game two. Starting pitcher
Trevor Barth got six strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched, to pick up his first win of the season. The Falcons ended the game with 10 strikeouts.
Games three and four of the series are scheduled to start at Noon on Saturday, February 25. The Falcons will play one 7 inning game and one 9 inning game.
