ODESSA, TX – After taking the first two games of the four game series over Texas A&M International, UT Permian Basin looked to ride that momentum into Saturday afternoon.
Games three and four were a slug fest between the teams, who split the day to give the Falcons their first series win of the season.
In both games the Dust Devils jumped out to early leads but were unable to hold off the Falcon hitters in the later innings.
In game one, UTPB erased the TAMIU lead heading into the seventh inning. However, TAMIU eked out a pair of runs late to take game one 6-5.
Mason Hamlin had a monster game for the Falcons. The freshman had three runs, three hits, with two doubles, a triple, and a stolen base.
Jack Haggerty had three RBIs on two hits with a run.
Falcon pitchers were led by
Parker Goin with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings. The pitching staff ended the day with eight strikeouts total.
In game two of the day the Falcons hung 12 hits on the Dust Devils to rally back from behind, again, to take game four 10-8 and the series 3-1.
Falcon hitter were led by
Carson Johnson with three hits, three runs, and an RBI.
Ethan Flodstrom picked up five RBIs on two hits with a double.
Cooper Ciesielski had two hits and two runs, and Ethan, Babcock-Barrie had two hits with a run.
Jack Haggerty had a double to go with a run and a RBI.
In addition to the hits, UTPB had three stolen bases coming from Haggerty, Flodstrom, and
Michael Clapperton.
Trey Penny picked up his first win of the season going four shutout innings with two strikeouts.
UTPB improves to 7-9 (7-9) on the season.
Next up for the Falcons is a road trip to play A&M Kingsville March 3-March 5, before coming back to Roden Field to host St. Edward's March 10 – 12.
