After
Kamari Portalis layed in the opening tip, the Falcon offense went cold and they fell behind by double digits. Trailing by as many as 16 early in the second quarter, the Falcons began to chip away at their deficit.
Holly Hemmeline buried a three and
Diavian Spencer followed with a pair of free throws to get back to within eight.
The Lady Buffs closed the half strong to lengthen their lead but the Falcons refused to go away. Hemmeline started another rally with a three before
Avalon Munoz added a three-point play to get back within eight. Another run by the home team put the Falcons behind by double figures. A three-pointer by
Morgan Helgesen and three points from Munoz brought the Falcons to within five early in the fourth quarter. After trading points, Hemmeline made it a four-point game with a three and a jumper by Portalis got the Falcons within a possession, but it was a little too late for the offensive surge. The Lady Buffs made their free throws down the stretch for the 72-65 final.
Hemmeline had a team-high 15 points. Munoz also finished in double figures with 10 to go along with nine rebounds. Helgesen pulled down eight boards in the effort.
The Falcons head to Lubbock Christian Saturday in the second of a four-game road swing. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
