GRAND JUNCTION, CO –
'For the first time in school history' is a phrase the UT Permian Basin swimming and diving team can use to sum up the Falcon's trip to Colorado for the RMAC Conference Meet.
Jazmine Tscherne has become the first UTPB woman to earn a NCAA "B" cut. She earned the spot by re-breaking her own record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.28 for a 5
th place finish.
Three other records fell on the final day of the meet.
Emma Gerhart also re-broke her 1000 free mark while swimming the 1650 free to break the team record in the mile. The "A" relay team of
Gabriela Gonzalez, Tscherne, Gerhart, and
Avery Joiner set a new school record with a time of 3:33.63 and a 5
th place finish. Finally, in the 3 meter, 11 dives event,
Kathe Hepfer set a new school record for 447.40 finishing 3
rd.
"I am so very proud of how the team competed this week," said Head Coach
Betsy Graham. "We swam fast, broke records, and had an amazing evening of NCAA cuts. It was an amazing week."
Here are the highlights from the final day:
In the 1650,
Niklas Heelein took 10
th place with a time 16:07.67 and
Evan Siegrist got 12
th with a time of 16:12.09.
Gabriela Gonzalez took 14
th in the 100 free with a time of 53.08. On the men's side of the 100 free,
Trevor Heath swam a 45.54 for 10
th place and
Zach Jones finished 14
th with a time of 46.42.
Daniel Bednarski took 12
th with a time of 1:53.37 and Ledgend Jankowski was just behind him at 14
th with a time of 1:55.04.
In the 200 breaststroke,
Axel Torres Hecker finished 9
th with a time of 2:03.87,
Matthew Newman swam a time of 2:10.74 for 12
th place, and Erik eikenbary took 14
th at 2:12.87,
Delaney Murphy grabbed 4
th in the 3 meter dive, 11 dives event.
In the 400 free, the "B" relay team of
Monica Lomeli,
Victoria Senus,
Ana Paula Guerra, and
Ava Reaume finished with a time of 3:43.90 for 13
th place. On the men's side, the "A" relay of Heath,
Armando Flores, Jones, and Heelein finished 4
th with a time of 3:04.00. The "B" relay of
Daniel Bednarski,
Jackson Nace,
Szymon Gilzynski, and
Issac Velasquez swam a time of 3:08.27 for 11
th place.
