A Day of Breaking Records and Collecting Medals for UTPB at the RMAC Championships

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – Falcon swimmers rounded up a lot of points in the pool today, day four of the RMAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The men's team whittled a 20 point gap down to only nine short of moving up into a top five spot in the event.
 
Niklas Heelein collected his third NCAA "B" cut, while breaking a school record from 2018 with a time of 4:29.92 in the 500 free.
 
On the women's side, Emma Gerhart broke a record from 2019 in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.00.
 
On the men's one meter, 11 dives event, the Falcons had three divers finish in the top six.
Carter Wood finished second place, just in front of Matthew Lenzo in third. Tristan Negrete took sixth in the event.
 
Here are the highlights from day four:
 
Jackson Nace finished 15th in the 500 free.
 
In the 100 back, Jazmine Tscherne got 5th with a time of 57.02 which was a personal best time for her.
 
In the men's breast stroke, the Falcons finished 11th, 13th, 14th, and 15th led by Axel Torres Hecker with a time of 58.70, Matthew Newman with a time of 59.91, Issac Velasquez with a time of 1:00.29, and Erik Eikenberry with a time of 1:00.56.
 
UTPB men's had a solid showing in the 200 butterfly as well, with Owen Putnam taking 6th with a time of 1:57.36, Even Siegrist coming in 8th with a time of 1:57.36, Nance coming in 9th with a time of 1:55.37, Szymon Gilzynski coming in 10th with a time of 1:58.19, Daryl Wells coming in 11th with a time of 1:59.40, and Joshua Longoria finishing 12th with a time of 2:01.96.
 
In the women's 200 free relay, the team of Joiner, Tscherne, Reaume, and Gonzales finished 4th, while the team of Guerra, Senus, Moore, and Lomeli came in 14th.
 
In the men's side of the 200 free, the Falcons swam into a 4th place spot with the team of Heath, Velasquez, Flores, and Jones, while the team of Gilzynski, Ward, Jankowski, and Hecker finished 12th.
 
Saturday will be the final day of the RMAC Championships, followed by the NCAA Championships, for those who qualify, starting on March 8.
