Falcons Tame The Lions

ODESSA, Texas – Graduate student Lathaniel Bastian and junior Alex Matthews led the way as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team (7-2, 3-1 Lone Star Conference) beat Arkansas Fort Smith (1-8, 0-4 LSC) 75-62, Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome.

The first half was just a good old-fashioned slugfest.  There were 10 lead changes and six ties.  UTPB went into the break, up 37-32.

The second half was the same until the 15:51 mark.  Matthews rattled the entire building with a dunk to end a 10-2 run.  That put the Falcons up 54-42 with 13:12 to go.

Arkansas Fort Smith slowly closed the gap, trailing 57-52 at the 9:18 mark.  Senior Keyon Craddock hit two free throws to start a run of seven straight points to seal the game

For UT Permian Basin, Matthews had 21 points and shot 8-of-14 from the floor and Bastian had 16 points and 17 rebounds.

For Arkansas Fort Smith, Payton Brown had 21 points.

UTPB hits the road, Tuesday, Dec. 12 taking on Angelo State.  The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
