Falcons Swoop Down On Eagles

ODESSA, Texas -  Four players scored in double figures as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (6-2, 2-1 Lone Star Conference) beat Oklahoma Christian (2-5, 1-2 LSC) 71-61, Thursday night at the Falcon Dome.

For the first four minutes of the game, UTPB and Oklahoma Christian went back-and-forth.  The score was 7-6, Falcons with 4:30 to go.

UT Permian Basin knocked down two 3-pointers and led by four to seven points the rest of the period.  The second period was like a game of Rock-Em Sock-Em Robots.  The Eagles took the lead 26-22 at halftime.

OCU came out on an 8-4 run to start the third period and led 34-26 at the 7:25 mark.  UTPB began to chip away.  Sophomore Makala Bingley hit a pair of free throws.  That put the Falcons up 39-38 with 2:01 to go.

For the next six minutes, UT Permian Basin and Oklahoma Christian slugged it out.  Four straight points put UTPB up 57-50 at the 3:48 mark. 

The Eagles refused to quit cutting the gap to two, 59-57 with 2:44 to go.  Bingley knocked down two triples in the next 44 seconds to turn the tide.

For UT Permian Basin, junior Avalon Munoz had 17 points and two steals, Bingley scored 13 points and hit two 3-pointers, graduate student Kamryn Lemon had 13 points and three steals and senior Andreea Mancha scored 12 points.

For Oklahoma Christian, Asiyha Smith had 15 points and Brooklin Bain scored 12 points.

UT Permian Basin remains home, Saturday, Dec. 9 taking on Arkansas Fort Smith.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
