Falcons Fall In Home Finale

ODESSA, Texas – Senior Gloria Geurin and junior Chyra Thompson had double-digit kill performances as The University of Texas Permian Basin volleyball team (17-8, 8-6 Lone Star Conference) lost 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22) to Arkansas Fort Smith (20-7, 10-4 LSC), Saturday afternoon at The Falcon Dome.

It was senior day and before the contest, Devin Alcoser and Stephanie Sanchez were recognized for their contributions.

In the first set, Arkansas Forth Smith had the momentum for the first half.  Down 16-11, UTPB began to fight back.

Geurin recorded a kill which started a run of six straight points.  That put the Falcons up 17-16.  After trading points with the Lions, UT Permian Basin scored three straight to take control.

In the second set, AFS jumped out to a 7-1 lead, effectively ending the set.

In the third set, UTPB and Arkansas Fort Smith traded points virtually the entire way.  Down 24-21, Geurin and junior April Egwu had kills to make it 24-23.  The Lions got a kill to close the set.

In the fourth set, it was another back-and-forth battle.  Geurin came up with a block to put the Falcons up 18-17.  AFS scored four straight to take charge.

For UT Permian Basin, Geurin had 15 kills and Thompson had 10 kills while hitting .471.  Junior Gabby Gregorski had 19 digs. 

For Arkansas Fort Smith, Nyia Anderson and Caelyn Gunn had 16 kills each.

UT Permian Basin hits the road, Friday, Nov. 10, taking on UT Tyler.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
