Falcons Battle To The End Against Dustdevils

LAREDO, Texas – A furious rally fell short as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (4-2, 0-1 Lone Star Conference) lost 84-78 to Texas A&M International (Receiving Votes) (8-0, 1-0 LSC), Thursday night at the Kinesiology Building.

For the first seven minutes, UTPB and Texas A&M International slugged it out.  The Dustdevils were up 10-7 with 2:38 to go before reeling off an 8-3 run.  That put TAMIU up 18-10 at the end of the first period.

Senior Holly Hemmeline dropped one in from the stratosphere.  That cut the gap to 23-17 with 6:56 left in the second period.  Texas A&M International scored 11 straight points and was off and running.

The Dustdevils maintained a double-digit lead until there was 4:59 to go in the final period.  The Falcons began to chip away and TAMIU started to lose its composure.

Graduate student Alexus Quaadman blasted through traffic to make it 79-74 with 27 seconds left.  UT Permian Basin quickly fouled and Texas A&M International  hit a free throw but missed the second one.

Quaadman grabbed the rebound and fired the ball to graduate student Kamryn Lemon, who hit a fast break lay-up with 19 seconds left to make it 80-76.  The Dustdevils hit four free throws to finally turn back UTPB.

For UT Permian Basin, Lemon had 25 points, four steals and was 10-of-14 from the floor, Quaadman scored 18 points with 14 rebounds and Hemmeline had 13 points with three triples.  Quaadman became the seventh player in program history to score 800 career points.  She is seventh with 804.
