UTPB Falls To Dustdevils

LAREDO, Texas – Three players scored in double-digits as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team (4-2, 0-1 Lone Star Conference) lost 66-57 to Texas A&M International (5-2, 1-0 LSC), Thursday night at the Kinesiology Building.

For the first seven minutes of the game, UTPB and Texas A&M International traded buckets.  Junior Alex Matthews put in a triple from left field to tie the game at 9-9 with 13:24 to go.

Up four, 16-12 at the 10:34 mark, the Dustdevils scored seven straight to lead by 11 with 6:23 left in the half.  The rest of the half saw the Falcons charge back and TAMIU respond, leading 34-27 at the break.

In the second half, UT Permian Basin kept fighting.  Junior Zy Wright slammed the ball home to cut the margin to three, 38-35 at the 17:03 mark.  Texas A&M International pushed the lead back to nine points.

Junior Khalil Haywood hit a driving lay-up to make it 44-38 with 12:40 to go.  The Dustdevils went on a 9-2 run to finally take control.

For UT Permian Basin, junior Ty Briscoe and Wright scored 11 points each and graduate student Lathaniel Bastian had 10 points with seven rebounds.

For Texas A&M International, John Achebe scored 13 points with five steals.

UTPB stays on the road, Saturday, Dec. 2 playing Texas A&M Kingsville.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
