UTPB Keeps The Eagles Grounded

ODESSA, Texas – Seniors Gloria Geurin and Logan Terrazas had double-digit kill performances as The University of Texas Permian Basin volleyball team (17-7, 8-5 Lone Star Conference) beat Oklahoma Christian (13-13, 5-8 LSC) 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 25-21, 25-17), Friday night at The Falcon Dome.

The first set was a dogfight the entire way.  UTPB was against the wall, down 24-23.  Junior April Egwu and Terrazas stuffed the Oklahoma Christian hitter.  That was followed by a forced error and a block to give the Falcons the win.

In the second set, the Eagles were up 7-5 before going on a 7-1 run that effectively sealed the set

In the third set, UT Permian Basin moved ahead 12-8.  OCU came back with a 6-2 burst to make it 14-14.  UTPB surged ahead and finally at 21-19 got a kill from junior Aaliyah Gray and block to take control.

In the fourth set, the script was the same; back-and-forth.  Up 15-14, junior Chyra Thompson exploded for a kill to start a run of seven straight points to seal the match.

For UT Permian Basin, Geurin had 15 kills and hit .382 while Terrazas had 10 kills and hit .400.  Egwu had six total blocks and junior Gabby Gregorski had 21 digs.
