UTPB Hits The Century Mark Against Lobos

ODESSA, Texas - Sophomore Makala Bingley and graduate student Alexus Quaadman scored 20 points plus each as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (4-1) beat Sul Ross State (0-4), 108-81, Tuesday night at the Falcon Dome.

Sul Ross State got off to a 5-2 lead with 8:52 to go in the opening period.  23 seconds later senior Andreea Mancha put a bucket in from downtown.  That made it 5-5.

The teams traded buckets until 8-7, UTPB.  Sophomore Khiara Flugence hit a lay-up to start a run of nine straight points.  That put the Falcons up 17-7 at the 6:09 mark.

UT Permian Basin maintained a lead of six to 12 points the rest of the first half.  At the 8:59 mark of the third period, the Lobos cut the margin to eight, 57-49.  Quaadman hit a tough shot in the paint to start a 12-1 run to finally put the game away.

The 108 points scored marked the first time since Nov. 18, 2015 that the Falcons scored at least 100 points.  It is the fourth highest total in program history.

For UT Permian Basin, Bingley had 21 points, two steals and shot 5-of-12 on triples and Quaadman had 20 points, blocked two shots and was 8-of-9 from the floor.  Graduate student Kamryn Lemon had 12 points and five assists.

Senior Holly Hemmeline scored nine points and was 3-of-7 from behind the arc.  She broke the career record for 3-pointers attempted with 670.  Hemmeline moved into third place for career scoring with 917 points.

For Sul Ross State, Marley Rokas had 19 points and eight rebounds while Victoria Aguayo scored 16 points with seven assists.

UT Permian Basin is off until Thursday, Nov. 30 when travel to play Texas A&M International.  The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
