UTPB Remains In The Hunt For Title

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Freshman Zane Garner was at the top of the podium for the University of Texas Permian Basin men's swimming & diving team on Day 2 of the Tiger Invitational, Saturday at Alamo Heights High School Natatorium.

Trinity has scored 811 points and leads by 82 points over UT Permian Basin.  Rounding out the top five are Southwestern (3rd – 309 points), Loyola New Orleans (4th – 308 points) and McMurry (5th – 57 points).

Garner swam 52.54 to win the 100-yard backstroke.  Senior Matthew Lenzo scored 488.70 points to win the 3-meter board by over 32 points.

Runner-up performances came from sophomore Carter Wood on the 3-m board (456.85 points) and the 200-yard medley relay squad of Garner, junior Nathan Powell, junior Szymon Gilzynski and senior Trevor Heath (1:33.99).

Earning third place honors was Gilzynski in the 100-yard butterfly (50.08), junior Niklas Heelein in the 100-yard freestyle (1:41.69) and sophomore Owen Putnam in the 400-yard IM (4:06.05 – 5th fastest in school history).

UT Permian Basin closes out the Tiger Invitational, Sunday, Nov. 19.
