SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Junior Niklas Heelein won a championship as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's swimming & diving team finished Day 1 of the Tiger Invitational, Friday at Alamo Heights High School.
Trinity has scored 363 points and leads by 40 points over UTPB. Rounding out the top five are Loyola New Orleans (3rd – 175 pts), Southwestern (4th – 137 pts) and Austin College (5th – 36 pts).
Heelein swam 4:35.89 to win the 500-yard freestyle. Three other Falcons scored in the championship final; junior Legend Jankowski (4th – 4:42.29), junior Evan Siegrist (6th – 4:44.42) and junior Ivan Torres (8th – 4:46.99).
Runner-up performances came from senior Trevor Heath in the 50-yard free (20.92) and the 200-yard free relay (1:24.53) of junior Szymon Gilzynski, sophomore Issac Velasquez, junior Nathan Powell and Heath.
The 400-yard medley relay (3:27.22) team of freshman Zane Garner, Powell, Gilzynski and Heath finished third.
UT Permian Basin remains at the Tiger Invitational, Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 18-19. The meet is in San Antonio, Texas.
