UTPB Earns 24 LSC All-Conference Awards

ODESSA, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin football team was well represented on the All-Lone Star Conference team.  The Falcons had five award winners and 19 All-LSC selections.

Kris McCullough was named Coach of the Year after an amazing season.  The Falcons went 8-0 in the LSC, winning the first conference championship in program history and 10-1 overall.  UTPB beat three nationally ranked teams this season (Angelo State, Central Washington and Texas A&M Kingsville), had the first winning season in program history and are hosting a first round game in the NCAA Division II Football Championships.  All of this after being picked to finish seventh in the LSC pre-season poll.

Graduate Student Kenny Hrncir earned the J.W. Rollins Award, given to the Offensive Player of the Year.  He has completed 57.1% of his passes for 2725 yards and 30 touchdowns while adding 610 yards and eight scores on the ground for 3335 yards in total offense.

Hrncir has been named LSC Offensive Player of the Week four times and set the single-season school records for passing touchdowns, passing yards and total offensive yards.  He is currently ranked seventh in passing TD's, eighth in total offense (302.8 ypg) and 19th in passing yards per game (247.4) for NCAA DII.

Junior Jeremiah Cooley was named Receiver of the Year.  He has caught 23 passes for 484 yards (21.04 yards per catch) and eight touchdowns.  Cooley has had a touchdown catch in six games and currently leads the LSC and is 24th  in the country for TD catches.

Senior Dominique Varela was named Defensive Lineman of the Year.  He has 18 solo tackles with nine assists for 27 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks.  Varela is currently third in the LSC for sacks.

Graduate Student Hayden Kelly was named Linebacker of the Year.  He has 64 solo tackles with 43 assists for 107 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, recovered a fumble and forced a fumble.  Kelly was a two-time LSC Defensive Player of the Week and ranks 4th in solo tackles per game (5.8) and 11th in total tackles per game (9.7) in the country.
Kelly and Varela made honorable mention in 2022.
