Falcons Get Edged Out By Grizzlies

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Four players scored in double figures as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball team (0-1) lost 70-67 to Adams State (1-0), Friday afternoon at Behnken Field House.  This was day one of the South Central Region Challenge.

UTPB came racing out of the gates.  Junior DJ Armstrong dropped one in from deep in the heart of Texas.  That put the Falcons up 11-3 at the 17:07 mark.

Over the next six minutes, Adams State went on a 12-4 run to tie it at 15 with 10:23 to go.  The Grizzlies outscored UT Permian Basin 19-11 the rest of the way to lead 34-26 at the half.

In the second half, ASU kept going up by five and watching UTPB pull back in.  Armstrong hit a pair of charity tosses to make it 44-44 at the 10:48 mark.

Adams State maintained a four-to-eight-point lead for most of the last eight minutes.  Armstrong rattled in a triple to cut it to 68-65 with seven seconds left.  The Grizzlies hit two free throws with four seconds left to seal the game.

The Falcons shot 45% on three pointers and 83.3% from the line.  UTPB held the Grizzlies to just 23.5% from behind the arc.

For UT Permian Basin, junior Zy Wright scored 12 points while Armstrong, junior Ty Briscoe and senior Keyon Craddock scored 10 points each.
