Falcons Get Tied Up By Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Everything was left on the court as The University of Texas Permian Basin volleyball team (16-7, 7-5 Lone Star Conference) lost 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19) to Texas A&M Kingsville (17-6, 9-2 LSC), Saturday afternoon at Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center. 

In the first set, UTPB jumped out to a 5-1 early lead and kept the pressure on.  Down 17-12, Texas A&M Kingsville began to creep back into the set.

The Javelina went on a 12-7 rally to tie it up at 24.  Junior April Egwu hammered the ball down the middle of the court. 

Senior Logan Terrazas and junior Chyra Thompson stuffed the hitter to give the Falcons the first set.

The second set went back-and-forth until 8-8.  TAMK went on a 7-1 burst to lead 15-9.  Thompson smashed the ball off the block to start the comeback trail for UT Permian Basin.

UTPB forced an error to tie it at 16.  Texas A&M Kingsville outscored the Falcons 9-3 to even the match up.

The third set was another battle early on.  Junior Aaliyah Gray found the back corner to close to 14-13.  The Javelinas then went on a 9-1 run to take control.

In the fourth set, TAMK stormed out to an 11-3 early lead.  UT Permian Basin refused to quit and slowly fought back into the set.

UTPB forced an error to close to 18-15.  A kill and a block from Texas A&M Kingsville finally stopped the Falcons.

For UT Permian Basin, Gray had 10 kills and junior Gabby Gregorski had 17 digs. 

For Texas A&M Kingsville, Megan Stiefer had 17 kills and 11 digs and Jackie Alanis had 12 kills and 17 digs.

UT Permian Basin returns home, Friday, Nov. 3, taking on Oklahoma Christian.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
