Falcons Fall To Lady Chaparrals

LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin volleyball team (13-6, 4-4 Lone Star Conference) lost 3-1 (13-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-10) to Lubbock Christian (13-7, 5-5 LSC), Saturday afternoon at the Rip Griffin Center.
 
In the first set, it was a battle until UTPB was up 7-6.  Senior Gloria Geurin found the back corner to start a run of nine straight points to effectively end the set.
 
In the second set, the Lady Chaparrals held a 12-9 lead.  LCU scored four straight points to take control.
 
In the third set, Lubbock Christian tried to put this one away early, going up 9-4.  The Falcons refused to quit and battled back. 
 
Freshman Mya Black spiked it off the block to close to 13-12.  The Lady Chaparrals scored seven straight and did not look back.
 
In the fourth set, UT Permian Basin got off to a 9-7 lead.  LCU reeled off a string of points to finish the set.
 
For UT Permian Basin, junior Aaliyah Gray had 13 kills and junior April Egwu had six total blocks.
 
For Lubbock Christian, Lacie Schooley had 16 kills and Kiana Fallaha had 14 kills.
 
UT Permian Basin returns home, Friday, Oct. 20 taking on St. Mary's.  The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
