Having three players in double-figure scoring including
Azariah Seay's 18 points was not enough to overcome a slow first half as the UT Permian Basin men's basketball team dropped an 87-67 decision at home to RV West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon.
Seay, a senior from Montgomery, Ala., added three rebounds to go along with his 18 points that were scored on 6-of-15 shooting from the field, 1-for-3 from long range and 5-for-7 from the charity stripe.
UTPB (8-9, 2-6 LSC) also got 11-point performances from
Jalen King and
DaJuan Jones.
Ahamed Mohammed's 13 points led WTAMU (9-5, 7-1 LSC), which totaled five players in double figures.
Statistically, Jones had an outstanding game with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals.
The Buffs jumped out to a 21-6 led with 13:24 left in the first half and never looked back while adding a 13-0 run over the final 2:30 of the first half and 1:07 of the second half to go up 53-29.
The Falcons did all they could in the second half and battled through the large deficit and put together a pair of nice scoring runs to keep the final margin at a more respectable tally. Â
A 10-1 run over 2:39 span early in the second half brought Falcons to within 54-39 then a 9-0 run over 2:17 span late in the period brought the score to 79-62.
First half turnovers hampered the Falcons who lost the turnover battle 20-13. The Falcons did a lot of damage from the free throw line going 27-of-35 in a game that saw 51 fouls called.
