Playing in front of the home crowd for the first time in over a month,
DaJuan Jones and
Azariah Seay did not disappoint on Thursday for UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball. Each of the backcourt duo scored 24 points against the normally stout Lubbock Christian defense. Jones added seven assists while Seay added six rebounds.
The Falcons fell behind early and the Chaps slowly built a lead, mostly at the free throw line. Trailing by 10 late in the half,
Jalen King and
Alvarez Powell trimmed the deficit with back-to-back baskets. After a pair of Chap free throws Jones converted a three-point play and Powell had a layup after a steal. King tipped in a layup at the buzzer and the Falcons trailed just 36-32 at the end of the half.
The Chaps came out hot in the second half while the Falcons struggled to get things going as the Chaps built a lead with an extended run. The Falcons found their stroke after trailing by as many as 20, and after threes by Jones, Seay, and
Keyon Craddock they trailed by 11. The Falcons refused to go away. Seay hit another three to make it a single digit game, but the Falcons couldn't close the gap over the remaining minutes, resulting in an 83-79 final.
King added 12 points while Powell had six points and six rebounds off the bench.
The Falcons welcome West Texas A&M to the Falcon Dome this Saturday with tip-off slated for 3 PM. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
