ODESSA, Texas – An 8-3 run in the final three minutes of the first half gave the UT Permian Basin a 37-32 lead going into the locker room, but a cold start the second half by nationally ranked Angelo State was too much to overcome for UTPB as ASU took home a 75-72 victory.
A raucous crowd inside the packed Falcon Dome would see
Azariah Seay collect six points during the 8-3 run. Seay was a menace all over the court for the Falcons (10-12, 4-19 LSC) throwing his body around like a ragdoll after loose balls especially rebounds to where he led the team in points (18) and rebounds (seven).
The massive run from ASU was also aided by a strong effort from one individual that seemingly willed his steam to win because without Kevon Godwin for Angelo State, you could have very easily seen UTPB collecting the win.
Godwin poured in 30 points for the game, but he tallied five of the 15 in the 15-1 run stat to the second half for Angelo State (16-3, 4-2 LSC).
Fredelin De La Cruz also played a crucial role in the run for ASU that saw a deficit quickly tuned into a lead the Rams would never relinquish.
DaJuan Jones' three over the outstretched hands of his defender with 4:20 left in the first half gave the Falcons their largest lead of the night at six (29-23).
The Rams stuck around long enough to where an inch was offered, a mile was taken and that isn't something that a team struggling to make the Lone Star Conference tournament like UTPB is with just a few games left to go in the regular season.
Keyon Craddock added a 13-point performance while teammates Jones (11) and
Max Warren (12) both added double-figure scoring days.
Alongside Jones in double figures for ASU were De La Cruz (19) and Tre Mitchell (13).
