After dropping 20 point on Friday,
DaJuan Jones repeated his performance for UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball. On Sunday the senior scored 20 points and dished out four assists at Western New Mexico. Joining Jones in double figures were
Azariah Seay with 13 and
Jalen King with 11 points.
The Falcons got off to a fast start and took an 8-1 lead. The Mustangs stayed in the game and eventually trimmed the Falcon lead down to one. King then took over on the offensive end, scoring the next seven points for the Falcons as they expanded their lead back to seven. The Mustangs made a little run to end the half and the score was 31-27 through 20 minutes.
A 10-2 run by the Falcons to open the half pushed the lead to 12. A pair of free throws from Jones made it a 15-point lead, but then the offense went cold allowing the Mustangs to climb back into the game. The home team eventually led by as many as six down the stretch but the Falcons responded. A three by Jones kept it a one-possession game and a free throw by
Keyon Craddock cut the deficit to one with 14 seconds left. After a pair of missed free throws by the Mustangs, Jones' layup at the buzzer was tipped away for the 69-68 final.
The Falcons were terrific from the free throw line, finishing 29-of-33 as a team.
