It was a fast start for UT Permian Basin Men's Tennis at the ITA Regional Championships, as three singles players and two doubles teams reached the round of 16 and are still undefeated after the opening day.
Ranked as the No. 5 seed,
Patryk Kosinski showed why with a pair of straight set victories. He cruised in the first match, dropping only four points and had an even smoother path in the second round winning 6-0, 6-3.
Grzegorz Rudnicki was ranked 16
th in the field and also cruised in the first two rounds, winning 6-0, 6-1 in round one and 6-1, 6-2 in round two. With a win the duo would face each other in the round of 8.
Takumi Katsuda pulled off the upset in round two, defeating No. 14 German Setti of Midwestern State 6-2, 6-4 to also advance to the round of 16. He'll take on an opponent tomorrow that upset the top seeded player in the field.
The duo of
Paul Schwieger and
Hector Flores proved why they they were seeded sixth with back-to-back wins, while the freshman team of Katsuda and
Jonas Krahofer also reached the round of 16 with an upset of the third seed.
