RICHARDSON, Texas (March 28, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis team played in its first Lone Star Conference match of the 2026 season and its first-ever match against The University of Texas at Dallas and came away with a 6-1 victory on Saturday at the UTD Tennis Complex.
UTPB won the first two doubles matches but fell in a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles.
Philipp Gaurieder and
Joao D'Amorim rolled to a 6-0 win over Ben Barnet and Ronav Aviur at No. 3 doubles while
Andrew Hunsley and
Lucas Nakasato won 6-3 over Juan Luis Aguirre and Eddy Shteyn at No. 2 doubles. Both pairs for UTPB have five wins so far this season in their respective positions.
Nehal Naidoo defeated Shteyn 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Nakasato defeated Benjamin Dubois 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles to make it 3-0 UTPB.
Hunsley clinched the match (up 4-1) with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 three-set, comeback win over Aviur at No. 5 singles.
Joao D'Amorim added a win in a third-set super tiebreaker at No. 1 singles, winning 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-6) over Aguirre.
The final match saw
Enrique Silveira defeat Eduardo Pastor 6-1, 6-2 in the six-hole.

- The Comets are still looking for their first win as a NCAA Division II member, and have yet to win more than two points in a match this season.
Next Up: UTPB remains on the road to finish off its three-match road trip, this time playing against The University of Texas at Tyler. The men's match will see the Falcons battle against the No. 7 nationally-ranked Patriots (starting at 2 p.m.). Each of UTPB's next four conference matches are against a team currently-ranked in the top-50 of the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
