Doggett Leads Defense Against Angelo State

Daylee Doggett of UT Permian Basin Volleyball finished with a game-high 20 digs in Saturday's four-set loss to Angelo State, opening conference play. Aquinicia Strambler was close behind with a season-high 17. Devin Alcoser led the Falcons with 20 assists and Jenna Gray added 18.
 
Aquincia Strambler and Mayce Barker started the match with back-to-back kills for a 2-0 lead before ASU responded with a 4-0 run. UTPB's next lead came after a 3-0 run saw kills from Stephanie Sanchez, Barker and Daylee Doggett for a 9-8 advantage. The Patriots answered with their own 3-0 run to lead 11-9 and led the rest of the first set, taking it 25-20.
 
ASU opened the second with an 8-1 run and eventually led 11-3. The Falcons got within seven on a pair of occasions but were outpaced by a 25-12 score.
 
UTPB opened the third set with the first three, starting with a kill by Logan Terrazas and ending on a service ace from Cassandra Rother. After an ASU kill, the Falcons scored three more, starting with back-to-back kills from Jenna Gray and Strambler before an attack error made it 6-1. UTPB had one more run in them after a kill from ASU, answering with the next four for a 10-2 start to set three. The Patriots cut it to 12-8 with a 4-0 run and later tied it at 14-14. A Chandra Reed kill and an ASU attack error put the Falcons ahead 18-15 to start a 6-2 run. Barker, Terrazas and Rother later added kills for a 22-17 score. ASU cut it to 24-23, but a service error gave the Falcons the set, 25-23.
 
ASU started the fourth with a 5-1 run and soon upped it to 11-3. A Strambler kill and an ASU attack error cut it to 12-6, but the Patriots held at least a six-point lead the rest of the way, winning 25-17 and taking the match in four sets.
 
Reed led the team in kills with nine and added three block assists.  Strambler's 17 digs came with eight kills and an ace.  Alcoser added nine digs to go with her game-best 20 sets.
 
The Falcons (5-7 | 0-1 LSC) next battle Midwestern State at the Falcon Dome on Friday, September 23.
