MJ Link had a night to remember on Saturday, setting the career touchdown receptions record for UT Permian Basin Football. The senior had a monster night to give him 15 touchdowns as a Falcon. He also was a big-play threat, going off for 191 yards against No. 5 Angelo State. The 191 yards are the second most in a game in program history.
The Falcon offense woke up halfway through the second quarter.
Kory Harris got things going with a 26-yard carry to flip the field to Ram territory. Two plays later
Timothy Wiggins positioned the Falcons just outside the red zone. Barton got the Falcons down to the five-yard-line with a 12-yard run later in the drive. After a pair of Ram penalties set the Falcons up on the one before
Suddin Sapien powered it into the endzone.
A pair of big plays by
MJ Link brought the crowd to life. After a short punt by the Rams, Barton found Link on a 76-yard catch-and-run for the touchdown. On their next drive, it was Barton to Link again, this time for a 70-yard touchdown that cut the deficit to 24-21.
A field goal and late touchdown by the Rams added to their cushion and made it 34-21.
Barton totaled 246 yards with his pair of touchdowns on the night. Harris ran the ball for 47 yards total. Wiggins finished the game with a pair of catches for 50 yards.
Layne Horak led the defense with nine tackles, including one for a loss.
Tyson Carter and
Jalon Rocquemore each had a sack in the effort.
