UT Permian Basin Men's Tennis started their season in doubles the right way on Thursday, taking the point from host Metro State - Denver.
Jonas Krahofer had a strong day winning the point in singles and doubles for the Falcons.
The Falcons split the first two doubles points, with the duo of
Takumi Katsuda and Krahofer taking it. The No. 2 doubles slot needed a tiebreaker in the end, but it was
Hector Flores and
Paul Schwieger clinching it. Krahofer won in a third set tiebreaker on the No. 4 line but that was the only point the Falcons could win in singles.
On the women's side, the Falcons battled hard in doubles 6-3, 6-4, and 6-3.
Rhea Singh had the closest call in singles but fell 6-4, 7-5.
"We played strong doubles today on the men's side," said Head Coach
Stan Anderson. "Jonas (Krahofer) played fantastic today. I was very happy with the energy level today and hope to carry through the rest of the weekend. The women had some first match nerves and had some unforced errors. They have the talent and I know the team is up for the challenge."
Tomorrow the Falcon women will face Colorado State - Pueblo and Nebraska - Kearney, while the men will face Colorado Mesa. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
