The University of Texas Permian Basin recorded its 50
th home run of the season on Friday afternoon, breaking its own team record set last week, as the Falcons opened a four-game Lone Star Conference series against No. 10-ranked Angelo State at Roden Field.

Oswaldo Godina's ninth homer of the season, a two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth, established the new team record. Godina also contributed a single in the sixth inning, going two for three on the afternoon.

Gabriel Morin put down an Angelo State threat in the first inning with a timely throw to second baseman
Mario Pena, a two-out, caught-stealing play that limited the Rams to a one-run initial lead. Falcon starter
Trey Penny, after allowing a second-inning leadoff walk, enticed the next three Rams to ground out, fly out, and strike out swinging.

Torren Brozovich took over the mound duties for UTPB in the top of the fourth, limiting Angelo State to one run.

Garret Thornton contributed the Falcons' first hit with a single up the middle in the bottom of that inning. Then, Godina drove the first pitch of his at-bat out of the park, cutting the Rams' lead to 6-2 after four innings.

Angelo State won a run-rule, 18-2 decision.
