The University of Texas Permian Basin concluded a four-game Lone Star Conference baseball series against No. 25 ranked Lubbock Christian on the road Sunday afternoon at Hayes Field.
Â
Center fielder
Devin Ferrari turned in a two-for-three performance at the plate for the Falcons.
Oswaldo Godina,
Mario Pena, and
Hayden Matthewson also singled.
Â
The Falcons got off to a good start in the first inning, with Ferrari singling up the middle on a two-out, one-strike pitch. Then, in the Chaparrals' half of the inning, UTPB starting pitcher
Trever Berg retired the side in order, forcing two infield grounders and a swinging strikeout.
Â
Berg turned in a nifty fielding play to preserve a scoreless inning third. With one out and one runner on at first base, the Falcons' pitcher knocked down a hard-hit ball, chased it, and fired bullet to shortstop
Michael Clapperton, who covered second base for the force out.
Â
Berg fashioned a three-up, three down fourth inning, enticing all three Chap batters to fly out.
Â
Lubbock Christian used ten hits and a solid pitching performance to win a 10-0 run-rule game in seven innings. Berg struck out a pair over 5.1 innings. Â
Â
The Falcons complete the regular season at 2 p.m. on Friday, when they host Angelo State in the first of four weekend games. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.Â
