UT Permian Basin Baseball's offense continues to roll after scoring 16 runs in their series opener against Cameron. The Falcons had 14 hits, including seven extra base hits, and got crucial outs from their pitching staff to cruise to a 16-6 win.
The Falcons got things going in the second on a triple to right centerfield off the bat of
Devin Ferrari.
J Raul Lopez singled up the middle to score him for the first run of the ballgame.
Pedro Astacio doubled to dead center to score him for the second run of the inning. Later in the inning the Falcons scored another run on a ground ball to push the lead to three.
The offense exploded in the fourth for seven runs. Astacio got things going with a booming double and was followed by a walk to Easley de la Cruz. Gabe Melendez singled through the right side to plate Astacio and extend the lead. After a pitching change,
Michael Clapperton brought in a run on a single up the middle to score de la Cruz. Thornton doubled home Melendez for the third run of the inning.
Oswaldo Godina delivered the big blow with a two-run double to left before scoring on a double by Ferrari. Astacio capped off the inning with another hit, this time scoring Ferrari for the 10-0 lead.
The Aggies made things interesting by answering with five runs in the top of the fifth but the Falcons responded with another crooked number. A walk and back-to-back singles loaded the bases for the heart of the order. Godina brought in a run by working a walk before Ferrari drove in a pair with another double. After a run scored on an error, de la Cruz drove in a pair with a single to stretch the lead to 16-5. The Aggies scored one in the seventh, by
Arnaldo Garcia Torres struck out the last two for the win.
Ed O'Bannon III earned the win with 3.0 strong innings. He struck out a pair and didn't allow a hit. Ferrari had three extra base hits on the afternoon while Astacio had a pair. Godina, Ferrari, and Astacio all had three RBI in the effort.
