MATCHDAY: Falcons Set to Open Spring against DI Opponent

UT Permian Basin Men's and Women's Tennis will be competing against UT Arlington on Sunday.

Your Falcons Last Time Out

At the ITA Championships the Falcons were led by Enrique Sanchez who was faced a top ten player from Midwestern State. Sanchez fell to him, but not before forcing a tiebreaker against one of the best players in the country. Sanchez then faced another tough opponentĀ who won an ITA Regional Tournament earlier in the fall and defeated him 6-0, 6-3.

Patryk Kosinski was able to make it to the consolation bracket and Jonah Neumaier made it to the semi-finals of the main bracket before falling in the finals of the consolation bracket.

In doubles matches the Falcons made some noise. The pairing of Paul Schwieger and Timon Kohler were in the finals of the consolation bracket. Sanchez and Roberto Garcia made it to the semi-finals, while Neumaier and Fernando Siqueria got to the third-place match.

This will be the Falcons first time competing in the spring season. During the winter break the Falcons upgraded to a new professional surface on their tennis courts. The surface will allow tennis balls to last longer, reduce and prevent injuries, and its what they play the majority of their matches on.

On the women's side the Falcons were led by the pairing of Teodora Vrucan and Brooke Runyan, who made it to the finals after being down in a 3-2 deficit to comeback and win six of the next seven games.
Lea Mjertan and Runyan were in the semi-finals of their respected brackets in singles action. Krystal Smith earned her first win over a Division I opponent as she beat her foe from Texas State 7-5, 6-3.

The Falcon women are 0-2 against UT Arlington and the Falcon Men are 0-3 against them.

The Maverick men are 2-0 in their spring season and haven't dropped a set. They defeated Dallas Baptist 7-0 and they took down Prairie View 7-0 on the men's side. On the women's side, the Mavericks are 4-0 as they also swept Dallas Baptist 7-0 and they took Weatherford by the same score. They beat Prairie View and New Mexico State 5-2.
