UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball moved one-step closer to the Lone Star Conference playoffs on Saturday, as huge performances from
Miles Daniels and
Jordan Horn propelled the Falcons by Western New Mexico. Daniels finished with 22 points and seven rebounds, knocking down five three-pointers. Horn finished the night with 19 points as the Falcons won 73-68.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead, taking an eight-point lead six minutes into the game. From there the Falcon offense went to work.
Kendal Frey started the rally with a jumper which was followed by a lay-up from Horn. The Falcons tied the game in less than a minute after Daniels converted on a four-point play.
The teams went back-and-forth trading scores but the Mustangs stayed in front. With 3:01 to go in the half,
Max Warren gave the Falcons their first lead since the opening bucket. Late free throws by Daniels expanded lead and the Falcons went into the locker room up 30-28.
A 6-0 run to start the half gave the Falcons their biggest lead of the night, but the Mustangs answered right back with a 10-0 run. The teams traded runs until the final two minutes of regulation. On back-to-back possessions, Daniels hit a three to go up by four. Late free throws by the Falcons sealed their third win in four games.
The Falcons won the battle on the boards 38-32 with
Lemmie Howard pulling down 10.
Keyon Craddock and Frey added seven rebounds in the team effort.
