It took all 40 minutes and then some on Thursday night, but if it wasn't for the performances by
Keyon Craddock,
Miles Daniels, and
Jordan Horn, UT Permian Basin Men's Basketball may have gone home empty handed against Texas A&M International. The trio combined for 62 points, including a career high 22 by Craddock as the Falcons came from behind in the final minute to win 89-86.
Both offenses started slowly, combining for just 10 points by the first media timeout. Neither side could get momentum going as they exchanged baskets and traded the lead back and forth. It was the Dustdevils who grabbed momentum first though with just a four-point run to get a little space. The Falcons retook the lead late in the first half after a Daniels three and a lay-up by Horn. The Dustdevils answered right back with a run of their own to take a five-point lead. Horn buried a three to trim the deficit, but the Falcons went into halftime trailing 34-29.
The second half started with the teams continuing to exchange blows and neither side able to snag momentum and the Dustdevils maintaining a slim lead. The Falcons grabbed their first lead of the half on the strength of a five-point run by Daniels. The lead would trade hands with neither side able to lead by more than just a possession.
In the final minute of regulation, the Dustdevils retook the lead on a lay-up. They pushed the lead to four with just 19 seconds left before the Falcons staged a comeback. They came right down the floor and Craddock buried a corner three to cut the deficit to one. On the other end, the Dustdevils went 1-for-2 at the free throw line to give the Falcons a chance to tie the game.
DaJuan Jones sprinted down the floor and with three ticks left tied the game on a lay-up, sending it to overtime tied at 77.
A Daniels three and Jones jumper put the Falcons up in the extra period early. Holding a one-point lead, Horn grabbed a loose offensive rebound to extend a possession, and the lead after two free throws by Jones. After the Dustdevils cut the lead to one, Horn converted on a pair of free throws to seal the win.
Craddock did the majority of his damage at the charity stripe, going 13-of-14, while also shooting 4-of-5 from the field. Horn was a rebound shy of a double-double finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds. Daniels went 5-of-8 from three to finish with 21 points, the third time in the last four games he has reached 20 points. Jones added in nine with three assists in his first game in two weeks.
The win put the Falcons in a three-way tie for seventh place in the Lone Star Conference, along with West Texas A&M and Angelo State.
