Wykoff Scores 17 Against No. 4 Team on Senior Day

Alexus Wykoff ended her collegiate career on a high note, scoring a team high 17 points in her final collegiate game for UT Permian Basin.  The senior was 6-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line to finish the season with 271 points.  In their final game of the season, the Falcons forced 20 turnovers against No. 4 Texas A&M – Commerce and held the South Central Regional leader scoreless from three in the first half.

The Falcons jumped out to an early lead after back-to-back layups by Ogechi Nwodo.  After the Lions responded, Nwodo banked another one in.  Morgan Helgesen and Rory Carter followed with buckets to put the Falcons in front by four.  After a Lion run, Carter sank a free throw to keep the Falcons within two, 17-15, heading into the second quarter.

The Lions extended the lead back to five but the Falcons wouldn't go away.  Six points from Wykoff kept the Falcons within a possession deep into the second quarter.  The Lions closed the quarter on an 8-2 run and the Falcons trailed the No. 4 team in the country 36-27 at the half.

The Lion offense caught fire in the second half and shot nearly 60 percent from the field and eventually pulled away for the 92-59 final.

Nwodo scored 10 points with four rebounds while battling early foul trouble.  Kamari Portalis and Holly Hemmeline finished with eight points each and combined for seven steals.  Carter finished with five points, five assists, and four rebounds.
